HISTORY
All Static & Noise sits within a history of conflict, conquest, occupation, and an enduring spirit of protecting land, culture and people. The Uyghur Region, also referred to as the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR) or Xinjiang or East Turkestan by many in the diaspora is situated in the western part of China, east of Central Asia. It is rich in resources and has always been extremely important for trade. As a result it has been subjected to domination and invasions by many different people and countries.
The Uyghurs and China: A History of Repression, by Giovanni Panzeri, provides a summary of this history. Sean Robert’s The War on the Uyghurs: China's Internal Campaign against a Muslim Minority and Garner Bovingdon’s The Uyghurs Strangers in Their Own Land offer more in-depth accounts of this history.
